The Extortion Collection

The Extortion collection is a series of mixed media artworks designed to "Disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed" -Caesar A Cruiz where the artworks are aimed to cause discomfort, are not aesthetically pleasing but, serve to provoke realization of the societal constructs we live under such as monetary value, gender stereotypes and beauty standards. 'Extortion' exposes how human nature and individuality are corrupted to benefit the standards of our society.

The collection is available for viewing at the Lithgow Workies club until 25/06/2024.

The precious gemstones featured in each piece are real, high quality and locally sourced kindly contributed by Sol Healing Crystals located 72 main street, Lithgow.

Chapter 1 "perception"

societal constructs have extorted perception to condition our psyche so our subjective experience is no longer individual but, rather coerced to appease social standards.

Perception becomes reminiscent of a whirlpool; the depth is unknown and the current... upredictable.

Chapter 5 "physicality"

A rendition of how physical identity is exploited by institutes to enforce the 'ideal standard' where desirable traits are upheld over the 'least' desirable traits therefore, dissolving unique identities.

The Japanese tradition "kintsugi" involves broken pieces of pottery where they are repaired, the cracks are leafed in gold displaying that beauty is found in the imperfect and the damaged.
